Date:2023-07-25

From July 9th to July 14th, 2023, the School of Mechanical Engineering successfully held three summer international courses, namely "Mechanical Product Lifecycle Design and Development," "Rail Wheel-Rail Damage and Safety Management," and "Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering." These courses were conducted through a combination of online and offline learning methods. The course lectures featured esteemed professors from different universities around the world. Professor Shengfeng Qin from the University of Northumbria in the United Kingdom, Senior Lecturer Hongtao Zhu from the University of Wollongong in Australia, Professor Enrico Meli from the University of Florence in Italy, Professor Muhammad Sultan from Bahauddin Zakariya University in Pakistan, and Assistant Professor Meng Chao from the University of Southern Mississippi in the United States. The experts introduced the students to various advanced topics related to mechanical engineering during the lectures.

In 2023, the School of Mechanical Engineering conducted its summer international courses using a combination of Tencent Meeting for online learning and offline classes. A total of 424 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the courses. Among them, the online learning participants for "Mechanical Product Lifecycle Design and Development" and "Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering" were 240 and 136 students, respectively. Meanwhile, "Rail Wheel-Rail Damage and Safety Management" was a highly specialized mechanical course and the only one in the past three years of international summer courses offered by the School of Mechanical Engineering that featured an offline class taught by foreign experts. Students had the opportunity to engage in face-to-face learning and communication with foreign instructors.

Based on most students' course summaries, it can be seen that through the summer international courses, they gained insights into the cutting-edge directions and potential challenges in the field of mechanical engineering. For many students, it was their first-time attending English courses, which provided a completely new and wonderful experience. It also made them realize the importance of mastering the English language. Additionally, they became aware of the significant role of emerging scientific and technological advancements in mechanical engineering. Overall, the international courses greatly inspired their future studies and research work.
